This week KIMSeattle piloted a cardiology airdrop program with the 7th grade class at Lake Washington Girls Middle School. This first-ever program brought interactive, didactic, and hands-on elements together for a truly STEAM experience.

Students spent their week learning about cardiovascular anatomy by "becoming" parts of the blood and conducting a pig heart dissection; they then turned to problem-solving by learning about biomedical devices and device deployment as well as the physiology and the electrical system with the help of a guest speaker from St. Jude Medical. Finally, these student scientists incorporated art into their scientific learning by creating biomorphic art pieces of the mitral valve, as well as constructing the heart and lower body vasculature out of clay.

We hope that this program was as amazing for the Ldub girls as it was for us - until next time!!
